Brian D. Costlow
Director, Office of Administration
Mr. Costlow is the Director, Office of Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters in Washington, DC. He also serves as the Secretary’s Designated Official for Headquarters Emergency Response. Mr. Costlow has served in numerous positions within the Office of Administration, including his serving as the Department’s liaison to the President’s Council on Sustainable Development from June 1996 to June 1999.
Mr. Costlow received the SES Meritorious Presidential Rank Award in 2004. He received the Secretary's Honor Award in 2008. Mr. Costlow also served one term as Chair of the Federal Administrative Managers Association (FAMA). He also served two terms as Chairman of the Interagency Council on Printing and Publications Services, an advisory board to the Public Printer of the United States.
Prior to joining the Department in 1988, he served in numerous capacities for nine years with the Internal Revenue Service.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Printing Management from West Virginia Tech and a Master's degree in Engineering (Crisis, Risk and Emergency Management) from The George Washington University. He currently serves as President of the Washington, DC Chapter of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology Alumni Association. Mr. Costlow is also a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville, VA.
Mr. Costlow and his wife Debra live in Arlington, Virginia, and they have three children.
